Since 1974

Ken Farmer is a lifelong resident of Virginia.  He and his wife Jane have been avid students and collectors of Americana and Southern material culture since they were married in 1974.

Since his teenage years Ken has been a musician and singer of traditional Appalachian and American Roots music.  As a performer he became interested in the songs, history, objects and stories of his native Southwest Virginia.  That led to him working in the antiques business for over 40 years.

He began his professional career as a dealer in Americana and decorative arts and then operated two regional auction houses from 1990 to 2015.  Ken has established himself as an advisor, appraiser and auctioneer, handling all categories of fine and decorative art.  Ken has appeared on the popular PBS series Antiques Roadshow since its inception in 1996 as a specialist in folk art, furniture, decorative arts and musical instruments.

Since selling his auction companies Ken has focused on providing appraisal and advisory services to both public and private clients.  His services are all about establishing personal relationships and helping his clients choose wisely when deciding to evaluate, sell or buy any category of antiques and fine art.
