Ferdinand Barbedienne Neoclassical Bronze Sculpture

French, 1810-1892.  “The Fates” after marble sculpture by Pheidias now in the Parthenon series.  Showing two carefully rendered figures in classical dress, Aphrodite is shown reclining and holding shears and a scroll while Artemis is crouched at behind her, holding a spindle.   Marked with “Reduction Mecanique” foundry mark and signed “ Barbidienne Fondeur”. Bronze, 14” H. x 26” L., resting on ornate custom granite base with ormolu-style fittings, 4 ½” x 8 ½” x 26”.  Tiny pin hole in drapery below foot.
